Lymphogranuloma Venereum

Diagnosis

The disease is rare in South Australia and diagnosis is difficult. A complement fixation test is sensitive but cross reacts with other chlamydial infections and titres below 1:64 should be interpreted with caution.  Chlamydia PCR may be positive from lesions.  The diagnosis should only be made after consultation with a sexual health physician.

Treatment

Standard therapy

doxycycine 100 mg orally 12 hourly for 21 days (ADEC D)

For pregnant or lactating women

erythromycin 500 mg orally 6 hourly for 21 days (ADEC A).
