Bacterial Vaginosis ("Gardnerella")Bacterial vaginosis is an infection caused by excessive growth of bacteria that may normally be present in the vagina. These organisms are usually harmless and exist in the vagina without causing any problems, however, when they are present in numbers they may cause symptoms. One such bacterium is Gardnerella vaginalis, hence a common name for the condition: Gardnerella vaginitis. Bacterial vaginosis is also sometimes called non specific vaginitis. Contents
