Sex with a Partner with an STD

If one of your sex partners is diagnosed with an STD you may be contacted and advised to have a check-up. Your risk of acquiring infection from this partner will be influenced by many factors including the nature and timing of your sexual activity and any protective measures you may have taken. Proper use of condoms reduces, but does not eliminate, the risk of acquiring an STD. Even if you think you were unlikely to have been infected from your partner it is desirable to have a check up as you may have been infected from a previous encounter, and many individuals commonly underestimate their risk of infection.
