When You Should Visit the STD Clinic

You can visit Clinic 275 for diagnosis and treatment of any symptoms you might have, or for a "check up" if you don't have any symptoms.

Reasons for visiting the clinic might include:

  • Symptoms suspicious of a sexually transmitted disease. For example, a discharge from the urethra, or a burning sensation when urinating in males. Females may have a vaginal discharge, itch or odour.  Either sex might notice an unusual rash, sores or lumps around the genital or anal areas.

  • If your sexual partner(s) have been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection, or if they are suffering from symptoms which might be a sexually transmitted infection

  • If you feel that you have possibly been at risk of contracting an infection through sexual contact or injecting drug use.

  • Some people come to the clinic for a check up with their partners at the start of a new sexual relationship.

Even if you feel that you haven't been at risk of contracting a sexually transmitted disease, remember that many infections can occur without any symptoms. The only way to be certain is to have a test.

If you have symptoms, check the "Should I see a doctor?" section to find out some of their possible causes, and what you should do about them
